Mycologist Alexander H. Smith appointed Director of the Herbarium.

Herbarium moves to the North University Building

Howard Crum appointed associate professor of botany and curator of bryophytes

Rogers McVaugh appointed Director. Ed Voss publishes volume I of the Michigan Flora series.

William C. Steere (U-M Ph.D. Botany 1932, former Director UM Botany) with Emperor Hirohito of Japan at the New York Botanical Garden.

William R. Anderson appointed Director.
