Mount Kinabalu, in the Malaysian state of Sabah in northern Borneo, is the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. The area covered in this survey could be thought of as essentially circular, including an area of some 1250 square kilometers. The center of this circle is at about 06°05'N, 116°35'E, and the radius is about 20 km. The elevation ranges from about 200 m (the lowest level represented in specimen data) to 4094 m on Low's Peak, the highest point.
The information available on this website is based on the floristic inventories compiled by John H. Beaman with Barbara Parris (ferns), J. J. Wood (orchids), and Christiane Anderson (dicots) in collaboration with many specialists. Reed S. Beaman wrote computer programs for data management and generating enumerations used in preparing manuscripts. The inventories are published in the series "The Plants of Mount Kinabalu," which comprises five volumes: ferns and fern allies, gymnosperms, monocots (except orchids), orchids, and dicots (families A-L; families M–W). Christiane Anderson constructed the website and database searches, which are based on files adapted from databases supplied by John H. Beaman.
