The only genus in this clade at this time is Heteropterys. Our current molecular sequences (C. C. Davis & W. R. Anderson, unpublished data) place it with little support in an unresolved clade comprising mostly genera with lateral-winged samaras.
Genus: Heteropterys
Distribution: New World tropics and subtropics from northern Mexico and the West Indies to northern Argentina and southeastern Brazil. One widespread, mostly Caribbean species, H. leona, is also found along the coast of West Africa from Senegal to Angola. [map]
