The only genus in this clade, Heteropterys, is strongly supported as monophyletic in the phylogenetic tree published by Davis & Anderson (2010 [pdf]). It is placed fairly strongly (80% bootstrap support) in a largely unresolved clade in which the other genera all have lateral-winged samaras.

Genus: Heteropterys

Distribution: New World tropics and subtropics from northern Mexico and the West Indies to northern Argentina and southeastern Brazil. One widespread, mostly Caribbean species, H. leona, is also found along the coast of West Africa from Senegal to Angola. [map]
